Design & Construction

Type Of Pools
Architectural Pools

Architectural pool have structure, definite lines, and often echoes the form of the house and uses the same materials for a cohesive look. An architectural pool is often geometric, sophisticated, and usually designed by an architect. If the house is custom-built, the pool is often built at the same time as the house, taking in size of the lot and the layout and relationship of the house to the pool.

Infinity Pools

Infinity pools are also known as infinity edge pools, vanishing edge pools, negative edge, zero edge, or disappearing edge. Infinity pools are always custom-built and should be designed to highlight a view. Done right, an infinity pool gives one an illusion of a sheet of water dropping off over the edge of the property, like a waterfall, although you can't see or hear falling water.

Overflowing Pools

The traditional overflow pool is made with a whole perimeter overflow channel. The water comes flush with the outside pavement overflowing in a classical duct or into splits directly cut in the floor or at the edge.

Skimmer Pools

Skimmer pools feature skimmers usually found into the upper sides of the pool where the suction draws and traps floating debris. Most skimmers can be accessed through a hack or trap door in the pool deck area.

In Ground Pools

In-ground pools are permanent structures built directly into the landscape. They come in several varieties, with concrete, fiberglass, and vinyl-liner pools being the most common types of in-ground pools. Your contractor can work with you on the choice of construction. Materials are typically chosen for strength and flexibility.

Above Ground Pools

In publishing and graphic design, Lorem ipsum is a placeholder text commonly used to demonstrate the visual form of a document or a typeface without relying on meaningful content. Lorem ipsum may be used as a placeholder before final copy is available.

Plunge Pools

Plunge pools are small, cold-water pools can be separate or attached to a larger in-ground pool. They can look like a spa. Many swimmers and athletes like to plunge into a pool of cold water after a heated workout or sauna or spa session, believing it has therapeutic benefits.

Indoor Pools

An indoor swimming pool is inside, under a roof, and insulated by at least three walls. Indoor pools are usually simple, geometric shapes and are built for swimming or training throughout the year, especially in cold climates.

Natural Pools

Natural swimming pools are self-cleaning pools that combine swimming areas and water gardens. Like any in-ground, private swimming pool, a natural pool can be designed in a freeform, rustic style with boulders and waterfalls, or it can be modern or architectural—sleek and elegant.

Lap Pools

A lap pool is a swimming pool built and used for fitness and health purposes. Lap pools are usually long and narrow, often more than 50 feet in length. Typically, lap pools are a rectangular shape and can be built on long, narrow lots.

Spa Pools

Typically, spa pools refer to small, heated and jetted pools that are built into or above the ground. They can be standalone features or adjoining a full swimming pool, and they can be indoor or outdoor.

Special Features
Waterfalls

Often built with rocks or boulders (real and faux) as part of naturalistic pool design, waterfalls are one of the most popular water features when paired with swimming pools. This feature has been rising in popularity in private settings after people have experienced them in tropical resorts.

Swim Up Bar

Swim-up bars are a custom feature available on concrete (gunite/shotcrete) pools. These structures include barstool seating, a countertop, and often a serving area outside of the pool known as the “dry side.” Typically, the configuration incorporates two to five barstools that are permanently built into the pool floor.

Integrated Spa

Integrated spas are built within the pool’s walls. An integrated spa with an “infinity” spillway, where, the water level is higher than the spa wall is a very modern and less common contained-water design.

Swim Jet System

Also known as “endless pools”, a swim jet system is an accessory that you can install in your pool that pushes a constant current of water across your pool, allowing you to get a swim workout in without needing all the space. Basically, it’s the pool equivalent of a treadmill. They operate by pushing large volumes of water through three jets. Two are positioned at the shoulders and one is angled up at the chest. This combination creates resistance for the swimmer to swim against, and are also great for water aerobics and therapeutic exercise. Their speed and pressure can be adjusted to accommodate swimmers of all levels.

Submerged Beach

The design of a submerged beach mimics the appearance and functionality of the natural beach at a lake or ocean. A submerged beach entry is a sloped, graduated opening to a swimming pool that typically replaces the regular steps into the water. It is positioned at the pool’s shallow end, the entry point is constructed to be even with the deck.

Automatic Covering

This feature is incredibly helpful whenever the pool is no longer in use. They will keep out anything from debris to kids. The automatic covering can serve as a cover for the pool during the winter time or it can serve as a patio area. All automatic covers are custom-built to fit your pool perfectly and manufactured from best-in-class materials.

Water Fountain

Water fountains are a highly under-rated feature to add to your swimming pool. They improve the overall aesthetics and offer a refreshing ambience to the pool and the area around it. Water fountains are mostly used to cool off the pool, they provide serene background noise, and with some decorative lighting, they can be the most beautiful feature you can add to your swimming pool.

Pool Heaters

As the name indicates, pool heaters are used to heat up the water in the swimming pool or spa. It is beneficial during the cold winter season when you want to go for a swim.

LED Lighting

You can really make backyard pools beautiful using light. With a focus on underwater LED pool lighting and ample incorporation of glass, one homeowner makes their pool glow in greens, blues or any other color you desire.

Tanning Ledges

Also called the Shamu shelf or Baja Shelf, tanning ledges a large shallow space that is standardly five to eight inches deep. This feature is generally positioned at the end of the pool. Whether you have young kids who could use a safe setting to play or simply want a good sunbathing location, a baja shelf can meet your needs. While you may think this shelf would make sense at the shallow end, many pool owners decide to put it at the deep end so that parents can supervise while their children jump off it.

Spa Spillways

Integrating spas and waterfalls is just one way to combine falling water with your spa. You could also use a spillover. One pool owner decided on a tiled above ground spa with a spillover leading down to the turquoise water of the swimming pool below.

Natural Rock Fixtures

Natural stone is one of the most popular pool features, whether it is simply decorative or also serves a functional purpose (such as seating). You can make the ambience of your spa more inviting with the placement of natural stone and tiki torches around its periphery.

Fire Pits

Fire pits are incredible features that can be located pool side or inside an island in the middle of the pool. They provide a breathtaking ambience and adds to a cozy seating area by your beautiful swimming pool.

Outdoor Shower

Outdoor showers are some of the best pool features because they are highly useful. Once people get finished swimming in backyard pools, they often want to be able to take quick showers. If you live near the beach, you might want an outdoor shower for cleaning off sand from those swimming trips as well. While people used to just want to quickly rinse themselves off at outdoor showers, many pool owners now want to be able to bathe in their backyards – contributing to the rise in requests for the outdoor shower.

Jump Off Perch

This is a fun feature to add to the swimming pool. Especially for kids, jumping off an elevated platform into the water is an amazing way to offer add to the experience and provide a fun element to the beauty of swimming pool.

Island

This is a great feature to have and can be used for multiple purposes. An Island in the middle of the swimming pool is a dry area that can be accessed by owners and their guests for a multitude of reasons. If you have the space and a big enough swimming pool, the island is used to serve food or drinks for the swim up bar or it can be elevated so that it can serve as a lounging area with a fire pit in the middle.

Stepping Stones

Stepping stones are a classic but highly decorative feature to have in your pool. These are built up concrete stone like structures that are just above the surface of the water so people could walk over and across the their swimming pools.
